A ground source heat pump uses pipes filled with a heat transfer fluid. The fluid absorbs heat from the ground, then is compressed to increase temperature. The heat provides space heating and hot water. The cooled fluid is circulated back underground and the process repeats.

 

How Much Energy Does a GSHP Generate?
